In a ceremony held at the Palace of Serbia, President Aleksandar Vučić awarded 55 decorations to individuals and institutions in honor of the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom, and National Flag. Among the distinguished recipients was Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who received the Order of the Republic of Serbia for his exceptional contributions to fostering peaceful relations and friendly ties between Serbia and Kazakhstan. This event, celebrated annually on September 15, underscores the themes of national pride and international cooperation.
Scottish actor Angus Macfadyen was also honored with the Order of the Serbian Flag, third degree, for his significant artistic and moral contributions to preserving the truth about the suffering of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. Macfadyen’s work in highlighting these historical narratives has been recognized as a vital contribution to cultural memory and international awareness.
The ceremony further recognized notable Serbian figures for their contributions to culture and public service. Petar Božović, a prominent dramatic artist, received the Order of Karađorđe’s Star, first degree, for his outstanding achievements in the arts, particularly in acting. Other recipients included academic painter Predrag Đaković and television director Veselin Vesko Grozdanić, both honored for their exceptional contributions to cultural and public activities in their respective fields.
Posthumous recognition was given to Professor Dr. Milica Bajčetić, a respected pharmacologist, who was awarded the Order of Karađorđe’s Star, first degree, for her success in representing Serbia in educational and healthcare sectors. Her innovative work in developing a pediatric formulation of enalapril for children with heart failure was particularly highlighted. Her husband, Zlatko Bajčetić, accepted the award on her behalf.
The ceremony also celebrated institutions and events that have significantly contributed to Serbian culture. The Karlovačka Berba Grožđa, a grape harvest festival in Sremski Karlovci, received the Order of Karađorđe’s Star, third degree, in recognition of its 95 years of cultural contribution. Similarly, the Film Screenplay Festival in Vrnjačka Banja was acknowledged for its 50-year dedication to the film industry.
In addition to cultural figures, the event honored individuals in the fields of medicine and education. Professor Dr. Svetlana Popadić and Professor Dr. Milan Stojičić were recognized for their contributions to dermatology and plastic surgery, respectively. The awards highlighted their roles in advancing Serbia’s medical and educational sectors on an international stage.
