Halkbanka has announced a series of new financial products aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs and women in business in Serbia. This initiative was unveiled during a conference in Belgrade, where Süleyman Bulut, President of the Executive Board of HALKBANK a.d. Beograd, outlined the bank’s strategic plans. The announcement is part of Halkbanka’s broader effort to strengthen its role in the Serbian economy, which includes relocating its headquarters to a new building at the beginning of the year and expanding its branch network to 51 locations.
The conference, attended by representatives from the European Investment Bank and the Serbian Entrepreneurship Fund, also highlighted the growing economic ties between Turkey and Serbia. Turkish Ambassador İlhan Saygılı noted that trade between the two countries is expected to reach $4.3 billion by the end of the year, a significant increase from previous years. He emphasized Halkbanka’s critical role in facilitating financial support and boosting Turkish investments in Serbia.
Recep Süleyman Özdil, General Director of Türkiye Halk Bankası A.Ş, shared insights into the bank’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship. He announced the extension of the prestigious Turkish competition “Women Who Produce” to include Serbian and North Macedonian participants. This competition, now in its sixth year, aims to provide women entrepreneurs with opportunities to develop their ideas and access new markets.
Özdil highlighted Halkbanka’s strategic focus on supporting new businesses and entrepreneurs outside major cities like Belgrade and Novi Sad, ensuring easier access to necessary financial resources for sustainable growth. The bank’s initiatives are designed to replicate the success of its programs in Turkey, where it has provided substantial financial support to over 500,000 entrepreneurs, including 285,000 women, since 2021.
The expansion of Halkbanka’s operations in Serbia is seen as a continuation of its efforts since acquiring Čačanska banka in 2015. The bank has been instrumental in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in the region, contributing to the development of the local economy.
As part of its growth strategy, Halkbanka plans to enhance its services and presence in Serbia, aligning with its philosophy of “People First, Then the Bank.” This approach underscores the bank’s dedication to prioritizing human-centric financial solutions.
The conference underscored the importance of the Turkish-Serbian economic partnership, with Ambassador Saygılı praising Halkbanka’s foundational philosophy and its evolution into a successful banking network in Serbia. The anticipated increase in trade and investment between the two nations is expected to further solidify their economic collaboration, providing a robust foundation for future joint ventures.
While the announcement marks a significant step in Halkbanka’s expansion and support for entrepreneurship in Serbia, the long-term impact of these initiatives on the local economy and their accessibility to the targeted groups remain to be evaluated. The bank’s efforts to integrate its successful Turkish business model into the Serbian market reflect its commitment to fostering economic growth and entrepreneurship in the region.
