Serbian TV Series Earn Saturn Award Nominations, Boosting Film Industry Recognition

Jan 30, 2026

Three television series filmed in Serbia have been nominated for the Saturn Awards in 2025, marking a milestone for the Serbian film industry. These nominations underscore Serbia’s growing reputation as a prime location for international film and television production. The series “Robin Hood” (MGM+, Lionsgate), “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” (TNT, Electric Entertainment), and “The Ark” (SyFy) have been recognized in their respective genres, showcasing Serbia’s talent and production capabilities.

All three series were produced by Balkanic Media, a company instrumental in elevating Serbia’s status in the global entertainment industry. Jonathan English, founder of Balkanic Media and one of the creators of “Robin Hood,” expressed pride in the nominations. He said, “This is a huge reward for everyone who worked on these series and truly confirms the talent and skill of the entire Serbian film industry.” English noted that these nominations highlight Serbia’s potential as a top film destination, offering incentives, talent, and facilities that make it an attractive production partner in Europe.

This recognition follows another accolade for Serbia: Belgrade was named one of the top five film locations in Europe for the EUFCN Location Award 2025. This further cements Serbia’s position as a competitive player in the international film market. The nominations and awards testify to the collaborative efforts of Serbian filmmakers, technicians, and actors.

The Saturn Awards, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, honor achievements in science fiction, fantasy, horror, superhero films, action-adventure films, animation, and genre storytelling across media. The inclusion of Serbian-produced series alongside globally recognized titles like “Stranger Things,” “Star Wars,” and “Star Trek” is a significant achievement for Serbia’s film industry.

Serbia’s success is attributed to strategic advantages such as competitive production costs, diverse filming locations, and a skilled workforce. The country’s commitment to supporting filmmakers has attracted numerous international projects, boosting the local economy and enhancing Serbia’s cultural impact globally.

These nominations also reflect a trend of increasing international collaboration in the film industry. As producers seek new locations and partnerships to realize their creative visions, Serbia’s growing reputation as film-friendly is likely to draw more international projects. This will further boost the local industry and offer Serbian talent more exposure on an international stage.

As Serbia’s film industry gains momentum, stakeholders are optimistic about its future. Recognition from the Saturn Awards and EUFCN Location Award serves as a catalyst for further investment and development. Industry leaders hope these accolades will inspire more international collaborations and position Serbia as a leading hub for film and television.
