Serbia is advancing toward opening Cluster 3 in its EU accession talks, according to Elvira Kovač, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration. She emphasized this progress following the EU-Serbia Stabilization and Association Council meeting in Strasbourg. Discussions focused on Serbia’s alignment with EU standards, particularly in judicial reforms and media regulation, guided by the Venice Commission.
Serbia has adopted seven out of nine recommendations from the Venice Commission, which deals with constitutional issues in Europe. Challenges remain, including addressing electoral legislation recommendations from the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and completing the composition of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM). Kovač is optimistic about resolving these issues soon, citing a favorable climate in Brussels for EU expansion.
Cluster 3 involves competitiveness, the digital economy, taxation, science, and innovation.
