The popular Serbian music competition show ‘Zvezde Granda’ is set to return with significant changes aimed at enhancing the quality of contestants and the overall production value. According to Goran Šljivić, the director of Grand production, over 4,000 candidates applied for the new season, but only about 200 were selected to perform. This marks a notable shift in the selection process, as the show aims to focus more on high-quality candidates.
Šljivić revealed that the first round of auditions will feature new rules and a different format compared to previous seasons. “We want to pay more attention to those truly excellent, top-notch candidates,” he stated. The director emphasized that the production team had a busy and stressful summer behind the scenes, organizing auditions, preparing candidates, and negotiating with the jury.
In addition to the changes in the audition process, the show’s set design and atmosphere have undergone a transformation. The new season promises a visually stunning experience, with a set dominated by dark tones and illuminated by neon lighting in purple and blue hues. The floor is designed with a high-gloss black finish, featuring futuristic white circular lines that create an optical illusion effect. A massive LED screen with a redesigned 3D logo of ‘Zvezde Granda’ adds to the spectacle.
Šljivić also highlighted the importance of candidates’ dedication beyond just singing. He regularly holds short meetings with contestants during rehearsals, offering them advice to make the most of their opportunity. “If they want to pursue this career, they must fully commit—not just to singing, but also to their stage presence, relationship with the production, and punctuality at rehearsals,” he explained. Šljivić believes that those who respect these aspects have a real chance of becoming serious stars.
The changes come in response to past criticisms regarding the quality of contestants and the production format. ‘Zvezde Granda’ has been a staple of Serbian entertainment culture, influencing music trends and launching numerous careers. The show’s evolution has been a topic of discussion in previous seasons, with the current changes aiming to address these concerns and elevate the show’s standards.
As the new season approaches, the production’s commitment to improving contestant quality and production value is evident. The revamped format and enhanced set design reflect a concerted effort to deliver an unprecedented spectacle to audiences. Whether these changes will resonate with viewers and result in a higher caliber of talent remains to be seen. However, the production’s proactive approach suggests a determination to maintain ‘Zvezde Granda’s’ status as a leading platform for aspiring musicians in Serbia.
