President Aleksandar Vučić visited the West Bačka District in Serbia to inspect ongoing infrastructure projects and address local community concerns. During his visit, Vučić announced that the construction of roads in the area is expected to be completed by October 20, with a total investment of two billion dinars needed for the road connections. The president emphasized the importance of these projects for improving transportation and connectivity in the region.
Residents in the district raised several concerns, particularly about water supply and transportation issues. Vučić assured them that these problems would be addressed in the coming years. He acknowledged the poor condition of the railway in the area and the necessity of connecting Bogojevo and Smajlijevo, which would require significant investment. The president also highlighted the need to avoid leaving Odžaci as an isolated area in terms of road infrastructure, stressing the importance of building a connecting road.
Vučić’s visit included a stop in Karavukovo, where he was warmly received by a large crowd. He engaged with the community, discussing their priorities for road construction, and decided to focus on the road towards Paragama first. The president also visited the family of Stanimirović, expressing admiration for their agricultural work and family dynamics.
The president outlined plans for additional infrastructure projects, including the construction of a roundabout between Ratkovo and Odžaci and the refurbishment of a 3.7-kilometer road section towards Paragama. He assured residents that construction machinery would soon be visible on these projects, indicating a swift commencement of work.
Moreover, Vučić addressed the issue of inadequate water and sewage systems, promising that these would be resolved within three years. He noted that the financial burden for such projects would need to be borne by the state, as local and provincial budgets could not cover the costs.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, Vučić discussed financial support for pensioners. He responded to a resident’s concern about low pension income by announcing a one-time financial aid of 35,000 dinars and an upcoming pension increase. This aid, when distributed over 12 months, would effectively add approximately 3,000 dinars to monthly pensions.
The president’s visit underscores the Serbian government’s commitment to enhancing local infrastructure and addressing community needs, although there remains some skepticism about the feasibility of the proposed timelines and the government’s ability to fulfill its promises. The infrastructure projects are part of a broader strategy to improve living conditions and economic opportunities in rural areas of Serbia.
