PARKSIDE, a brand known for its high-performance DIY products, has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new Guinness World Record with its latest engineering endeavor. The PARKSIDE PERFORMANCE 20V cordless drill successfully launched the London Eye, the world’s largest cantilevered observation wheel, in a demonstration that combined innovative engineering and strategic marketing. This event, dubbed “THE ROTATION,” follows the brand’s previous record-setting achievement in 2025, where a 12V cordless drill pulled an Airbus A380.
The technical execution of this record-breaking attempt was carried out in collaboration with the Technical University of Darmstadt. The university provided the scientific foundation for the project, which involved creating a specialized system using a hydraulic winch and cable. This meticulous preparation allowed the PARKSIDE drill to achieve what seemed impossible: rotating the 135-meter-tall, 2,100-ton London Eye using only the power of the cordless drill.
The drill, a special edition of the PARKSIDE PERFORMANCE 20V model, boasts a maximum torque of 60 Nm and features a compact design with an optimized transmission, a brushless motor, and a high-quality drill chuck from RÖHM. The drill was also equipped with an 8 Ah battery, contributing to its impressive performance during the event. The technical precision required for this achievement included setting the London Eye’s existing hydraulic system to a neutral mode to prevent braking, and using the hydraulic winch to move the wheel with a force of up to 20 tons, compensating for additional loads such as strong winds.
The event was witnessed by 45 content creators from 31 countries, highlighting the global interest and reach of PARKSIDE’s marketing strategy. Robin Ruschke, the head of marketing and senior vice president of Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG, emphasized the significance of this achievement for the PARKSIDE brand. “The new record is a spectacular testament to the strength of the PARKSIDE brand,” Ruschke stated, underscoring the brand’s commitment to quality and innovation.
This latest achievement by PARKSIDE not only sets a new benchmark in the DIY product industry but also serves as a powerful marketing tool, demonstrating the capabilities of their products in a highly visible and engaging manner. The collaboration with the Technical University of Darmstadt and the involvement of international content creators further amplify the brand’s message and reach.
As PARKSIDE continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with DIY tools, the implications for their market position and consumer perception are significant. The successful execution of “THE ROTATION” not only reinforces PARKSIDE’s reputation for quality and performance but also sets the stage for future marketing campaigns that leverage these high-profile achievements. With the drill available for reservation through the Lidl Plus app starting September 3, PARKSIDE is poised to capitalize on this momentum, further solidifying its presence in the global market.
