The first regional business exhibition for the Braničevski and Podunavski districts is set to take place on September 5, 2026, at Ergela Ljubičevo in Požarevac. Organized by the Regional Chamber of Commerce of Braničevski and Podunavski districts with support from the City of Požarevac, the event aims to showcase the economic strength and potential of the region under the theme ‘Roots – Development – Digitalization.’ This exhibition seeks to connect various sectors, including economy, tourism, tradition, and culture, highlighting the diversity and quality of the region’s economy.
Jasmina Mirković Nedeljković, acting director of the Regional Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the symbolic significance of the event’s theme. “The roots represent tradition and knowledge, the trunk symbolizes development and the companies that currently drive the region’s economy, while the canopy represents the future, digitalization, and new generations of entrepreneurs,” she explained. The exhibition intends to present the region’s companies, products, and potentials, aiming to foster new business opportunities and collaborations.
The choice of Ergela Ljubičevo as the venue is particularly meaningful, as it embodies the intersection of history, tradition, agriculture, economy, and culture. Mirković Nedeljković remarked, “Ljubičevo uniquely bridges tradition and future, making it the perfect starting point for this economic story.” The event will also feature presentations from local tourism organizations from various municipalities within the region, including Požarevac, Smederevo, and Velika Plana, among others.
The Regional Chamber of Commerce, headquartered in Požarevac, has a long history of supporting the local economy, celebrating over fifty years of service. This exhibition is intended to further solidify its role as a bridge between the economy, institutions, and the market, opening avenues for new contacts, collaborations, and business opportunities. “We are starting with the first generation of exhibitors and want them to be the first ambassadors of this event. I believe that year after year, we will expand this story and showcase the best our region has to offer,” Mirković Nedeljković stated.
Economic activities in the Braničevski and Podunavski districts have been characterized by stability and growth in foreign trade. In 2025, the region achieved a foreign trade surplus of approximately 46 million euros, with exports reaching about 462 million euros and imports around 416 million euros. The region’s economic structure is marked by a significant industrial presence, along with developed service sectors, agriculture, and construction. Over 19,000 businesses and entrepreneurs operate in the area, employing around 82,000 workers, indicating a substantial economic base.
However, the exhibition’s success in attracting participants and generating business opportunities remains uncertain. There is a potential risk of underrepresentation of smaller businesses or startups, which could skew the perception of the region’s economic health. Despite these challenges, the exhibition aims to establish a recurring platform for regional businesses, promoting economic development and fostering connections among various sectors.
As the region continues to adapt to changes in key European markets, maintaining the competitiveness of export-oriented companies, attracting further investments, and adjusting to evolving market conditions will be crucial for ongoing economic development. The exhibition represents a step towards achieving these goals by providing a platform for showcasing the region’s strengths and exploring new business opportunities.
