The EXPO 2027 in Belgrade has made a significant advancement in its preparations by completing the procurement of machinery valued at 265 million dinars. This investment is aimed at maintaining the green and service areas at the exhibition site. The acquisition includes 191 pieces of equipment, such as water trucks, cargo vehicles, and lawn mowers, which will be used for various tasks including transportation, material collection and disposal, and green area maintenance.
The procurement process resulted in the awarding of 18 contracts to several companies and groups, including “TEHNIX BEO” from Belgrade and “FPM Agromehanika” in collaboration with “BC-Truck,” “Auto-Garant,” and “Braća Crnomarković.” Other companies involved are “Vladex” from Velika Drenova, “Milurović-Komerc,” “Valhall” from Stara Pazova, and “Lopex” from Belgrade. The equipment will not only serve the needs of the exhibition but will also be repurposed for the City of Belgrade after the event concludes, as stated by EXPO 2027’s director, Danilo Jerinić.
Jerinić emphasized the dual purpose of this procurement, highlighting its importance for both the exhibition and the city’s future infrastructure. “This acquisition ensures that the green and service areas of the EXPO site are maintained at an appropriate level. It is also significant that this machinery will continue to be used for the needs of the City of Belgrade after the exhibition, providing a lasting legacy of EXPO 2027,” Jerinić said. He also encouraged companies to participate in the ongoing tenders necessary for organizing the exhibition.
The EXPO 2027 is set to take place from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All.” The event is expected to attract around four million visitors from Serbia and abroad over its 93-day duration. This large-scale event has already seen contracts awarded for consulting services and volunteer training, as part of its comprehensive preparation efforts.
While the procurement marks a significant step forward, there are concerns about the sustainability of such investments post-exhibition. Details on the procurement process, including how it was conducted and whether competitive bidding was involved, remain unspecified. Nonetheless, the machinery’s future use by the City of Belgrade is seen as a positive outcome, potentially enhancing the city’s urban maintenance capabilities long after the exhibition has ended.
