Slovakia has confirmed the participation of 30 of its companies in the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, marking a significant step in fostering economic and cultural ties between Slovakia and Serbia. The announcement was made by Lukáš Parižek, Slovakia’s Commissioner for EXPO 2027, during a presentation in Bratislava. Slovakia plans to highlight its culture, tourism, business, and sports sectors at the event, which is expected to last three months.
Parižek emphasized the strategic importance of the EXPO as a platform for showcasing Slovakia’s unique attributes to a global audience. “We are focusing not only on the architectural design of our pavilion but also on the program content we wish to present during the EXPO,” he stated. Slovakia, the first country to confirm its participation, views the EXPO as an opportunity to reinforce its longstanding positive relations with Serbia and to establish new business contacts and collaborations.
In addition to business interests, Slovakia is also enhancing its tourism connections with Serbia. Matej Fekete, the General Director of Slovakia Travel, revealed plans to create affordable travel packages for Slovak tourists, which will include entry to the EXPO and tours of various Serbian attractions. “I expect a significant number of Slovak tourists to visit Serbia during the EXPO,” Fekete said, highlighting Serbia’s appeal as a travel destination with its scenic landscapes and vibrant capital, Belgrade. These packages will be available from November 1, aiming to boost tourist traffic and economic interaction between the two nations.
The EXPO 2027 in Belgrade is anticipated to be a major international event, providing a stage for countries to present their cultural and economic strengths. It is seen as a potential catalyst for local tourism and economic growth, although the exact impact remains to be seen. The event will run from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme “Play for Humanity – Sport and Music for All,” and aims to attract a diverse array of global participants.
As preparations continue, the EXPO is expected to enhance Serbia’s global image and foster international cooperation. The participation of Slovakia, with its focus on a multifaceted showcase, underscores the broader significance of such international gatherings in promoting cross-border understanding and economic development.
