Slovenia has officially signed a contract to participate in the EXPO 2027 event in Belgrade, marking a significant step in strengthening economic ties between Serbia and Slovenia. The Slovenian delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Labor, and Sports Anže Logar, visited the construction site of the EXPO 2027 complex, where their pavilion will be located in Hall 7. This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance bilateral relations and explore further business connections.
Jagoda Lazarević, Serbia’s Minister of Internal and External Trade and Commissioner for EXPO 2027, accompanied the Slovenian delegation during their visit. She expressed confidence that Slovenia’s participation in the EXPO would contribute to the fortification of bilateral relations between the two countries. Lazarević highlighted the dynamic period ahead, emphasizing the focus on completing construction work to enable Slovenia to take over their pavilion by mid-October.
EXPO 2027 is a significant regional event, with 142 countries confirming their participation. The EXPO aims to present themes that contrast with the prevalent global narratives of crises and conflicts, focusing instead on sports, music, and positive economic topics. Lazarević noted that the EXPO’s theme would serve as a counterbalance to daily media reports on wars and energy crises, aiming to foster discussions on more uplifting subjects alongside economic cooperation.
Anže Logar emphasized the importance of Serbia as a key economic partner for Slovenia, noting that Serbia ranks 12th in bilateral trade and second in direct Slovenian investments. The signing of the participation contract, delayed until the formation of Slovenia’s new government, was unanimously approved, highlighting the strategic importance of this collaboration. Logar pointed out that Slovenia’s unique branding, with “love” in its name, would be a focal point in their pavilion, aiming to showcase an attractive aspect of Slovenia and stimulate economic cooperation opportunities.
The Slovenian delegation’s visit also included discussions on plans for business connectivity, with both sides looking forward to a period of robust engagement. Logar expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, anticipating numerous opportunities that the EXPO will open up for both nations.
The EXPO 2027 project is seen as a significant opportunity for regional cooperation and economic development. The involvement of Slovenia, alongside other participating countries, is expected to enhance Serbia’s international profile and economic prospects. The event will not only showcase cultural and economic offerings but also serve as a platform for fostering deeper regional ties and cooperation.
As preparations continue, the focus remains on ensuring that the infrastructure and logistics are in place to support the EXPO’s ambitious goals. The event is anticipated to provide a substantial boost to Serbia’s economy, with potential benefits extending beyond the immediate participants to the broader regional community.
