The “EXPO karavan,” a cultural initiative aimed at promoting the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, has successfully engaged over 123,500 visitors across 34 municipalities in Serbia. This event, which ran from July to October, featured more than 1,700 local artists and performers, showcasing the diverse cultural and traditional heritage of the regions visited. The caravan’s purpose was to introduce the values and opportunities of the EXPO 2027 to citizens throughout Serbia, as noted by Danilo Jerinić, the director of EXPO 2027 Beograd.
The caravan included interactive workshops, sports activities, music, and educational programs, providing a preview of the atmosphere expected during the EXPO 2027. Notably, the “Pavilion of Play” workshops and the “Serbian House” pavilion simulation attracted significant attention, with the latter drawing 4,600 visitors who reacted positively to the experience. Additionally, an eco-sports initiative focused on reforestation involved 1,971 participants who collectively cycled 824 kilometers.
The event emphasized community engagement, with local artists and performers playing a crucial role in representing their respective cultures and traditions. This approach not only highlighted the rich cultural tapestry of Serbia but also fostered a sense of national pride and unity in anticipation of the EXPO 2027. The positive reception from visitors and local municipalities suggests a successful outreach, with inquiries about continuing activities into the winter or the following year.
As Serbia prepares for this significant international event, the focus is shifting towards economic opportunities for local businesses. The next phase, dubbed the “Business Caravan,” will involve collaboration with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce to engage domestic companies. This initiative aims to help businesses leverage the EXPO 2027 as a platform for growth, attracting partners, creating jobs, and ensuring long-term development.
Interest in the EXPO 2027 extends beyond Serbia, with regional and European businesses expressing strong interest in participating. During a recent visit to Ljubljana, plans were discussed for 2,000 Slovenian companies to attend the event. Similar enthusiasm has been observed in North Macedonia, Bratislava, and Zagreb, where regional economies are actively preparing their presentations. This underscores the importance of Serbian businesses preparing to meet international competition and seize the opportunities presented by the EXPO 2027.
The EXPO 2027, scheduled from May 15 to August 15, 2027, is expected to attract over four million visitors from around the world. Organizers aim to ensure that the event benefits not only Belgrade but the entire country, encouraging visitors to explore Serbia’s tourist, historical, and cultural attractions. This strategy is designed to maximize the economic and cultural impact of the event across the nation.
In summary, the “EXPO karavan” has laid a strong cultural foundation for the EXPO 2027, engaging communities and showcasing Serbia’s cultural richness. As preparations continue, the focus will increasingly turn to economic opportunities, with efforts to involve local businesses and attract international participants. The success of these initiatives will be crucial in realizing the full potential of the EXPO 2027 as a transformative event for Serbia.
