“Dear Diary” Exhibition Explores Personal Narratives at Galerija Haos, Belgrade

Maja Erdeljanin’s exhibition “Dear Diary” is set to open at Galerija Haos in Belgrade on October 20, showcasing the artist’s unique approach to visual storytelling through collages and watercolor drawings. The exhibition, which will run until November 20, aims to highlight the significance of everyday narratives, both personal and societal, in Serbian culture. The opening will be officiated by art critic Maja Živanović.

Erdeljanin, a well-regarded artist from Novi Sad, has been active in the art scene since 1992. Her work often explores ethical and aesthetic questions, with a particular focus on the psychological impact of colors. The “Dear Diary” exhibition is a continuation of her exploration into the importance of daily experiences, drawing inspiration from international awareness days that commemorate various societal issues, from endangered species to underappreciated professions.

The artist’s method involves creating collages from materials she encounters in her everyday life, such as items found during travels or in her immediate surroundings. This approach results in a visual-prose diary, capturing the essence of each day as a story worthy of recognition and artistic depiction. Erdeljanin explains that her work is driven by the understanding that “there are no insignificant days,” as each day holds a story that deserves to be noticed and visually recorded.

Erdeljanin’s career has been marked by her participation in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe, including in Germany, Austria, Greece, Norway, and Italy. Her contributions to the art world extend beyond her own creations; she has also been involved in curating exhibitions and editing art journals. Her works are part of several public and private collections, and she has received multiple awards for her artistic and editorial endeavors.

The significance of personal narratives in Serbian art is a recurring theme, and Erdeljanin’s exhibition at Galerija Haos underscores this cultural element. The gallery itself has a history of supporting artists who explore personal and collective stories through their work. This exhibition not only provides a platform for Erdeljanin’s artistic expression but also invites the audience to reflect on the broader societal themes embedded in everyday life.

As the exhibition opens, it is anticipated to attract art enthusiasts and critics who are interested in the intersection of personal narrative and visual art. The exhibition’s potential impact on the local art scene and community engagement remains to be seen, but it is expected to contribute to ongoing conversations about the role of art in documenting and interpreting personal and societal experiences.
